About the museum

The School and Chapel of the 1950s is one of the museum spaces that the Lenbur Foundation maintains in the urban centre of Legazpi, alongside Chillida Lantoki, Fabrika and the Vivienda obrera (workers’ housing). Visits are by appointment.

The visit recreates a mid-20th-century classroom: slates, desks and encyclopaedias arranged in strict order evoke an era of rigidity, discipline and religiosity, in which boys and girls attended different schools and each was educated to fulfil their place in society. When each desk is lifted up, stories are revealed and the traditional games and toys of those years can be learned.

For family audiences, the activity Aiton-Amonen eskola (“the grandparents’ school”) is organised, which invites visitors to find out how earlier generations studied.
