About the museum
The Museu Arqueològic de Gandia occupies the Gothic building of the former Hospital de Sant Marc, a medieval hospital that operated until 1973 in the historic centre of the city. It is the main institution dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the La Safor region and, in addition to its permanent exhibition, runs cultural activities and temporary exhibitions.
The permanent exhibition is divided into two main sections. The first is dedicated to prehistory and traces the story from hunter-gatherer societies to the first food-producing groups, with material and art from sites in the region. The second focuses on the Iberian and Roman world and is spread over four rooms covering different aspects of life and death in rural areas during Antiquity.
Among the sites whose material is shown are local caves such as the Cova de Bolomor, the Cova de les Maravelles and the Cova del Parpalló.
