About the museum
For centuries Potries had intense pottery activity, to the point that its name seems to derive from this craft. The last active potter, Ángel Domínguez, died in the mid-1980s of the 20th century, and with him a very old tradition came to an end. Shortly afterwards, the town council bought the building and launched a programme to recover the memory of local ceramic production.
The museum occupies a traditional house with a pottery workshop. The ground floor recreates the domestic space, with a kitchen-dining room and a bedroom with original furniture, and preserves the workshop with its kiln, settling tanks, foot wheel and glaze mill. The upper floor explains the chronology of local pottery with pieces from different sites and tools from various workshops. Next to the museum there is a ceramics workshop school.
