About the museum
The Centre d’Interpretació “La Cultura de la Pansa” is an initiative of Ròtova town council and occupies a restored riurau, known as the riurau del Roig or de la Rogeta, to the west of the village. A riurau is the traditional building where grapes were dried, and the centre uses it to explain how the bunch was turned into raisins and how local society has changed since then.
The route covers when grapes began to be dried in Valencian lands and how far this practice reached, the different ways of drying muscat grapes and the traditional production of raisins, with their tools. The process is told step by step, from the preparation of the lye, the hornillo (brazier) and the boiler to storage, and attention is given to the architecture of the riurau and to the golden age of raisins. The centre's website also offers teaching materials, bibliography, articles and audiovisuals on the collection.
The riurau has also served as a space for cultural activities: the cycle “Contes al riurau” was held there, with storytelling for family audiences and a guided visit, as well as the grape-scalding festival (escaldado de la uva), which the village revived in 2021 after 65 years. The visit to the centre can be combined with the Vil·la Romana de la Sort, with which it shares a public price, through a joint ticket.
