About the museum
The Casa de los Frailes was a former building in the village that had fallen into ruin. It was restored between 2003 and 2006, combining modern and traditional elements, and opened as a multipurpose venue in the centre of the village.
The building, with some 540 square metres of usable space arranged around an inner courtyard, houses a museum, a library with free internet access and an assembly hall. The permanent exhibition, titled “La Prehistoria en Las Arribes”, is based on items of historical and archaeological value donated by Professor Luis Benito del Rey, ranging from the Palaeolithic to the Chalcolithic, with some Roman and Visigothic materials.
Panels and audiovisual resources complete the display with the geological formation of Las Arribes and its natural and tourist resources; the upper floor is devoted to water and the River Duero with its tributaries.
