About the museum
The idea for the museum arose in 1987, when two enthusiasts decided to preserve and restore old objects stored in stables and haylofts. It opened on 18 August 2001 and is a private initiative: its collection comes from donations and loans from residents of Puerto Seguro and from nearby villages in Spain and Portugal.
It occupies a restored traditional house. In the entrance, farm implements such as yokes, ploughs and cart parts are on display; the courtyard retains well and trough elements, stone benches, doors and old fittings; the stable and workshop bring together livestock and hunting tools and a restoration space. In the bedrooms, the lounge and the kitchen, furniture, textiles and household utensils are shown.
Since 2011 the museum has organised summer exhibitions in the square or in the social centre under the programme “El Museo se sale”. Puerto Seguro lies in the west of the province of Salamanca, on the border with Portugal, on the southern edge of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park.
