About the museum
The museum is housed in the former Casa del Médico (doctor’s house) of Muelas del Pan, a building that was rehabilitated and extended at the start of the 2000s to become a space devoted to archaeology and the village’s pottery tradition. It is run by the town council and aimed at a broad audience, with a didactic approach.
The pottery room brings together pitchers, cooking pots, earthenware pans and traditional tools that show the role of clay in rural life, and it is linked to commissions that, according to the museum, reached the court of Joanna I of Castile. The archaeology room displays pieces from the Copper and Iron Ages, from the Roman and medieval periods, found in the nearby hill forts and settlements, among them Vettonian verracos, stelae and everyday objects. A workshop with traditional kilns recreates the making of pottery, and there is audiovisual material.
The museum is currently listed as temporarily closed due to technical problems and building works, and visits are available on demand and by prior appointment.
