About the museum
The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Obispo de Vellosillo, known as MACOV, brings together works donated by contemporary painters and sculptors who have taken part in the Cursos de Verano de Ayllón since 1965. These artists’ donations formed a collection that now exceeds two hundred pieces on display, with names such as Alcorlo, Álvaro Delgado, Barjola, Pedro Bueno, Genovés and Lucio Muñoz, in both painting and sculpture.
The seat is the palace of Bishop Vellosillo, a building of the late 16th century representative of the rural nobility of its time. It has a square plan, a Renaissance façade and several rooms arranged around a central courtyard with galleries and Tuscan columns. It was restored and has housed the museum since 1983; the municipal library is also in the same building.
The collection also includes archaeological remains. In 2026 the museum celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of the collection with a temporary exhibition and the renewal of Room I, which shows the works with which the museum began.
