About the museum
The Casa de las Bolas is a 15th-century building on the Plaza de San Juan, in the heart of Aranda de Duero. Tradition places here the residence of Juana de Avís, wife of Henry IV, who lived in the town between 1461 and 1464 together with her daughter Juana la Beltraneja and the infantes (princes) Isabel and Alfonso. After a major restoration the original façade retains the round arch, a Gothic window with a sill decorated with balls, which gives the house its name, and the double cornice, with balls in the lower course and wooden corbels at the top.
The museum houses the painting collection that the engineer Félix Cañada Guerrero donated to the town council: a survey of European painting from the 17th to the 20th century, through the subjects and media he gathered over his lifetime. A series of one hundred prints by Salvador Dalí illustrating the Divine Comedy is also on show. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum runs temporary exhibitions and contemporary art projects.
