About the museum

The museum occupies the former Chelva railway station, opened in 1895 on the Valladolid–Ariza line. Its architecture, in the French style, reflects French influence on railway construction of the period. The line marked a before and after in the city's industrialisation and in communication throughout the Ribera del Duero. On 31 December 1984 it was closed to passenger traffic, and ten years later also to freight.

In 1998 the Asociación Arandina Amigos del Tren (ASAAT) set up the museum, which exists thanks to its work of gathering, classifying and researching. Machinery, locomotives, photographs, clothing, models, work tools and other railway objects are on display. The museum aims to give prominence to the people who, from anonymity, made the railway work and still make it work.
