About the museum
The museum is next to the parish church of San Miguel Arcángel, in the centre of Mula, and is administratively dependent on the parish. Its core is the collection donated in 1942 by Pedro Luis Blaya and Pilar de la Canal.
The works, spread over five rooms, span the 16th to the 20th century and include religious and secular painting, among them biblical scenes, allegories, zodiac series, still lifes and some pieces painted on glass. Among the religious works are the Christ of the Passion, a Last Supper and a Virgen Dolorosa (Our Lady of Sorrows).
The church, of Renaissance origin, was begun around 1560 on the initiative of the House of Vélez and completed at the beginning of the 18th century; a visit is usually combined with one to the museum.
