About the museum
El Tesoro de la Concepción brings together the objects of worship of the Concepción parish in La Orotava. The collection was built up through purchases the parish made from its own funds, through donations and through the consequences of the disentailment of Church property (desamortización), from which this parish was the greatest beneficiary.
Until a few years ago the pieces were kept as storage material in the upper rooms of the north sacristy, which had once been the parish house. Today they occupy the main rooms of the building: the north sacristy with its anteroom and the treasure room, the choir, the south sacristy and the chapter rooms.
The collection includes liturgical furniture, images, paintings, processional litters (andas), sacred vessels, monstrances, songbooks, musical instruments and vestments. The town council considers it one of the most important collections in the Canary Islands.
