About the museum
The pottery tradition of La Rambla goes back to prehistory: bell beakers more than 4,000 years old have been found in the area. The craft became established in the Andalusí period and grew after the Castilian conquest. In 1926 a competition and a ceramics exhibition were held, the origin of the present ENBARRO fair, which is regarded as the oldest specialist pottery and ceramics exhibition in Spain.
From that exhibition onwards, La Rambla gathered an important collection of ceramic pieces, which forms the basis of today’s museum. The museum is housed next to the castle tower and offers a route through the evolution of local pottery, from the treatment of raw materials and technical aspects to forms, functions and marketing. It includes audiovisual and interactive resources on the ceramics industry and forms part of the network of nine municipalities of the Ruta del Vino Montilla-Moriles.
