About the museum
The museum originated from a donation that Margarita Cantarero Yases signed with the University of Alcalá on 17 February 2021. It comprises the collection that she and her husband, Antonio Molero Pintado, a professor of the History of Education who died in 2017, built up over the years.
It was installed in the former Iglesia de los Remedios, next to the Faculty of Education on the Guadalajara campus. It was presented in November 2021 and has offered guided visits by prior booking since 2022. It is directed by Dr María del Mar del Pozo Andrés.
The collection includes notebooks, teaching materials, desks, uniforms, photographs and other objects, mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries, of which only part is on display. Its central theme is the school cupboard, where the most valuable material was kept, and the museum presents itself as a project still under construction, with texts by teachers and pupils that help explain how the objects were used. It also has a bibliographic collection on pedagogy, with books, journals, school projects and textbooks. The University of Alcalá's website states that the museum has been closed since 1 January 2024.
