About the museum

The museum is dedicated to the memory of the sculptor Jacinto Higueras Fuentes, born in Santisteban del Puerto in 1877 and died in Madrid in 1954. His collection was formed from the donation of original works and documentation made by the artist's family in 1963, together with the works awarded at the International Sculpture Competition that the town council holds in his memory.

The building dates from 1868 and for a century was the seat of municipal government. Its façade is of reddish ashlar stone and has wrought-iron balconies. It is located near the town hall, on the Plaza Mayor.

The exhibition is laid out over two floors. On the ground floor, a single room brings together religious sculpture, the sculptor's family and monuments. On the upper floor, one room shows the portraits and busts made by Higueras and another the prizes from the international competition. The permanent exhibition shows only part of the considerable body of work held by the museum.
