About the museum
The museum is on the estate of the Casa de la Alegría, the last family home of Blas Infante, regarded as the driving force behind Andalusianism. The house is a Property of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural) and is always visited with a guide. The gardens, of some 20,000 m², were designed by Infante himself and bring together trees, scrubland and the aromatic and medicinal plants typical of the Andalusian landscape.
It is run by the Fundación Centro de Estudios Andaluces, an entity linked to the Junta de Andalucía. The centre is not only a museum: it also has a research centre with a library and a documentation centre on Andalusian autonomy.
The permanent exhibition, called Sala 28F and covering 360 m², traces the process of autonomy and displays original symbols, such as the first flag of Andalusia. The complex is completed by a temporary exhibition room, an interpretation centre on emigration and return, and an audiovisual room. An annual programme of night visits is also organised.
