About the museum

The museum inherits much of the collections of the former Artillery Maestranza of Seville, whose 1897 Memorial mentions a “sala de modelos” (model room) considered the seed of a first artillery museum in the city. Over the years, collections were added from the Military Pyrotechnics and its apprentice schools, from the Royal Artillery Factory, and from dissolved military units, mainly from the Seville garrison.

The museum opened on 18 December 1992 and from 2000 underwent an extensive refurbishment that recovered the original architectural concept by Aníbal González, creator of the Plaza de España complex. Its entrance is in the inner gallery of the square, between the Puerta de Aragón and the Torre Norte.

The exhibition area covers 2,036 m² over three floors and eight rooms, where part of some 4,000 items of very varied types is displayed: industrial archaeology, war machines, history, art and industrial development, as well as objects that recall Seville's relationship with the army. Since 2020 the management has been working on updating the exhibition narrative.
