About the museum
The Museo de la Batalla del Jarama was founded on the initiative of Gregorio Salcedo, a resident of Morata de Tajuña who, from the early 1950s, gathered material recovered from the fields where the battle of February 1937 was fought. The collection is shown in a room built in the Mesón El Cid, on Calle del Carmen.
The museum is one of the few in Spain dedicated to the Civil War. Its eight rooms bring together personal effects, documents, photographs, weapons, helmets, mortars, ration books, maps and other objects belonging to soldiers from both sides, presenting above all the everyday life of those who fought at the Jarama. A sculpture entitled “Tributo desgarrado en metralla del Jarama” presides over the exhibition.
The visit can be completed with the guided routes through the Parque Histórico de la Batalla del Jarama, organised by Morata de Tajuña Town Council, which include trenches and fortifications.
