About the museum
The museum grew out of the project of Carlos Jiménez, a former film exhibitor and collector, who wanted to bring together in one place the technical and professional heritage of cinema exhibition. It presents itself as the first museum of professional and technological cinema in Spain and is located in Villarejo de Salvanés, in the south-east of the Community of Madrid.
The centre occupies about 1,000 m² of the former premises of a commercial cinema, the Cine París, and is organised into three rooms with seven thematic areas. Visits are always guided and cover the evolution of moving images.
The collection brings together pre-cinema devices, magic lanterns, projectors, cameras, documentation and posters of classic films. It has more than 500 projectors and thousands of posters, and spans from the 18th and 19th centuries to the year 2000.
