About the museum
The Segorbe Cathedral Museum opened in 1949 in the upper cloister of the cathedral, after works damaged during the Civil War had been recovered. It is the heir to a diocesan museum that had begun in the second decade of the 20th century in the Episcopal Palace.
It was reopened in 2003 with new spaces and a renewed museographic project. Since 1994 it has been part of the network of museums recognised by the Generalitat Valenciana. The rooms occupy the upper and lower cloisters, the adjoining chapels and other rooms of the cathedral.
Painting predominates in the collection: International Gothic, a Hispano-Flemish cycle from the mid-15th century and 16th-century Valencian painting, with the panels of the high altarpiece by Vicente Macip and Juan de Juanes. The route is completed by sculptures such as the Virgin known as “La Primitiva”, the choir stalls from the early 18th century, the Golden Door of the lower cloister, the reliquary urn of San Félix, and wrought ironwork from the 15th and 16th centuries.
