About the museum
The Museo de la Ciencia y el Agua opened in December 1996. It occupies the former water reservoirs that supplied the city of Murcia and is on the Plaza de la Ciencia, in the El Carmen district.
Its aim is to awaken curiosity and bring scientific knowledge to the public in an entertaining and participatory way. The museum is based on the conviction that scientific outreach contributes to a more democratic society and helps citizens to take a better part in the decisions that will affect them in the future.
The museum is municipally owned. In addition to its galleries it has a planetarium, which runs sessions for different ages, and it organises special activities such as astronomical observations with telescopes in the square, and the children’s activity “Una noche en el Museo” (A Night in the Museum), in which children aged 8 to 12 tour the museum at night and sleep among the aquariums and the planetarium. Guides are available for visits.
