About the museum
The Moros y Cristianos festivities are one of the most popular celebrations in the city of Murcia and are declared of National Tourist Interest. To introduce the festivity to visitors, the associations that organise it founded a dedicated museum, which opened on 27 March 2011.
The museum occupies the first floor of Pavilion II of the former Cuartel de Artillería, a military complex built between 1921 and 1926 that today houses institutions and museums of the city.
The collection brings together the costumes of each of the kábilas and mesnadas that parade every year, the banners, the costumes of the Reyes (kings) and the Favoritos, and the embroidered capa lorquina (cape from Lorca) worn by the Moorish Ambassador. Official posters of the festival from more than thirty years are also displayed, together with photographs and paintings by local artists of the celebrations. The museum has guides and organises guided visits to its permanent collection, by prior booking, on special dates such as International Museum Day.
