About the museum
The Museo de la Pasa is dedicated to the town's most characteristic product, the raisin (pasa), on whose production much of the population depends. It occupies two semi-detached houses near the church of San Mateo, dating from the early 20th century and probably from the 19th century. They keep their original structure and have been furnished with objects donated by residents of the village.
The museum recreates the everyday life of a raisin-growing family at the beginning of the 20th century. The rooms display household utensils of the period, such as bread-kneading troughs and vessels for drawing water, and explain the work of producing raisins from its very first stage.
Among the tools on display are pruning shears from the early 20th century, esparto ropes for tying the canes of the paseros, the mallet used to shape the esparto and drive in the stakes, a hoe, an axe, a carbide lamp for lighting the way in the countryside at night, and farm workers' footwear from the twenties. The display is completed by a collection of lithographs reproducing old advertising packaging used to sell raisins. It is municipally owned and free of charge.
