About the museum

The Lagar de Torrijos dates from 1843 and is the prototype of the winepress house of the Montes de Málaga, an area once famous for its sweet, semi-sweet and dry wines. Winepress houses are buildings whose main part is devoted to making wine; some of them from that time still survive, though scattered.

The building has been kept substantially as it was built and today houses an ecomuseum, a must-see for anyone visiting the Parque Natural Montes de Málaga. It is surrounded by the dense pine forest characteristic of the area, and one of the park’s most attractive trails starts from here.

Inside, the traditional process of winemaking is explained in detail. Visitors can also see the rooms housing the bread ovens, an olive oil mill and the living quarters.
