About the museum

The history of the building begins in the mid-1990s, when Genovés town council, together with the Generalitat Valenciana and the Diputación de Valencia, bought a former banqueting hall. The building stands next to the trinquet (pelota court) and the adjoining bar, built in the 1960s by Arturo Bataller, who kept the trinquet always open for anyone who wished to play and to whom much of the local enthusiasm is attributed.

A municipal team was responsible for gathering the material: everything was accepted, from the leather ball used in a final to the most modest poster. The museum opened on 16 December 2003 and is conceived as a museum of ideas and a meeting point for pilota enthusiasts. In 2017 the Conselleria de Cultura of the Generalitat Valenciana officially recognised it as a museum.

As well as the general exhibition on the world of pilota, with the different types of ball, photographs of players, various material, models, panels, an interactive area and a library, the museum has organised monographic exhibitions, such as the one devoted in 2005 to Paco Cabanes, “el Genovés”, a legendary figure of the sport. Next to the museum there is a trinquet where pilota grossa can be played.
