About the museum
The museum occupies the tower of the parish church of Santiago, one of the symbols of Totana. Its aim is to tell the history of the town through the construction of the tower itself and the objects and items connected with it. The visit is always guided.
The tower is divided into five levels. The first is the chapter house (sala capitular), devoted to the handover of the lands of Totana to the Order of Santiago. The second is the church choir, from where the Mudéjar coffered ceiling of the church can be seen and its chapels are explained. The third is the so-called “cuarto de los novios” (the newlyweds’ room), the former dwelling of the bell-ringer, with the old clock of the tower.
The fourth level contains the current clock and is not open to visitors. The top level is the belfry, where the second-oldest bell in the diocese, dating from 1470, is kept.
