About the museum
The museum commemorates the 51 Claretian missionaries, most of them young men in training, who were shot in Barbastro in 1936, at the start of the Civil War. It stands in the building where the events took place, next to the church of the Padres Misioneros, and was promoted by the Provincia Claretiana de Aragón, which opened it on 15 November 1992.
After a renovation completed at the end of 2023, the route is organised into eight themed rooms. It brings together original documents, photographs, audio and video about the lives of the martyrs and their vocation; the multimedia content is accessed via QR codes. Highlights include models of the spaces where they were held, the bell that summoned them and the napkins on which they left their last testimonies.
The crypt, which retains its original condition and holds the remains of the martyrs, is one of the most significant spaces. The museum also includes a room dedicated to Saint Antonio María Claret and to the missionary work of the congregation. Its website offers a virtual tour.
