About the museum
The museum occupies the Enmedio mill, one of Soria's traditional flour mills, on the bank of the Duero at the start of the Paseo de San Prudencio, next to the Sotoplaya wash-house. The building was used for a long time as a wash-house and, after several refurbishments, hydraulic pumps were installed there that raised water from the Duero to the reservoirs of the Castle, supplying the town. From the milling past, the weir, the channel and the sluice gates survive.
The exhibition brings back the original machinery of the former lifting station, with pumps, motors and a turbine, and uses panels and audiovisuals to explain the uses water has had throughout the town's history. The room, with space for about 50 people, also houses the collection “Usos del Duero” (Uses of the Duero), a set of 20th-century photographs provided by the Archivo Histórico Provincial, showing buildings, places and moments of everyday life in Soria along the river.
The museum forms part of the walking routes along the Paseo de San Prudencio, which links the town with the San Saturio hermitage and where the Sotoplaya and Lanas wash-houses can also be seen.
