About the museum

The Museo del Carnaval de Badajoz is located in the building of La Poterna, in the Baluarte de Santiago, next to the Plaza de la Libertad. It is municipally owned and presents the city's Carnival as a living museum, with light, sound and staging.

The exhibition is organised into an entrance hall and five sectors. They cover the origin and evolution of the festival, a projection with the highlights of the last Carnival, the workshop where costumes, lyrics and props are prepared, a display of recent costumes with a theatre space and a children's area, and a graphic history with documents and photographs.

The museum reopened in November 2024, but its operation depends on funding from the Junta de Extremadura and the Town Council. In October 2026 it was still closed and only opened on specific dates, with no stable reopening date.
