About the museum
The Museo del Cerrato Castellano was created in 2010 to study, appreciate and promote the artistic, cultural, historical and landscape heritage of the Cerrato region. It is the result of collaboration between the Junta de Castilla y León, the Obispado and the Diputación de Palencia, the Ayuntamiento de Baltanás and the rural development group ADRI Cerrato Palentino, and it aims to be a participatory and dynamic space.
It occupies two buildings that form a single space of 1,640 square metres: the former Colegio de la Milagrosa, in Modernista style, and the Palacio-Hospital de Santo Tomás, dating from the 18th century. The Modernista building houses the regional interpretation centre, the temporary exhibition room, a multi-purpose room, the shop and the tourist office.
The permanent collection is installed in the palace and includes a picture gallery with works by painters from the Cerrato and by Castilian and Leonese artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, a collection of sacred art from the church of San Millán and the hermitage of Revilla, a room on the history of the Cerrato and archaeological remains from the region. The visit is completed by an 18th-century Baroque courtyard.
