About the museum
The Museo Bustos occupies the house of a family in Torquemada, in the Palencian Cerrato, and is run by the Fundación Torquemada Rodríguez Bustos. The house was the home of a priest ordained in 1960 who was also a teacher, a researcher of local history and a painter, and who took the landscapes, monuments and past of his village as the subjects of his work.
The route is designed as a journey into rural Spain of the 60s and 70s of the 20th century, when traditional customs were giving way to mechanisation and consumption. The visit begins in the farmyard (corral), which explains the agricultural and livestock economy of the comarca. The ground floor is laid out as a dwelling of the period and shows, through domestic utensils, the changes in Spanish society. The first floor is devoted to the history of Torquemada and its figures, among them Catherine, daughter of Joanna I of Castile, and the poet José Zorrilla. The attic is used for temporary exhibitions.
The collections bring together pieces of ethnology, history, art, sacred art and decorative arts gathered over the founder’s lifetime.
