About the museum
The Museo del Pan opened on 11 August 2001 in the village of Mas del Olmo, part of the municipality of Ademuz. It occupies the ground floor of the former communal bread oven, a traditional stone building in the La Era district, built in the 1930s, before the Civil War, to replace an earlier oven destroyed by fire. The oven operated until around 1985, and a local cultural association later restored the building.
The museum brings together ethnographic objects related to bread-making, such as kneading troughs, sieves, oven peels, cloths and tools for shaping the loaves, as well as farm and threshing tools and instruments for measuring grain and liquids, such as scales and steelyards. On the upper floor, where the village council used to meet, there is a social centre and an exhibition room.
The oven was run communally, and the bakers were paid in kind. A visit to the museum is now offered as part of a guided experience around the village that includes the old school and the hermitage of Santa Bárbara.
