About the museum
The Centro Temático del Río Genil, also known as the Museo del Río Genil, is an interpretation space about the river that separates the provinces of Seville and Córdoba, within the framework of the Ruta del Tempranillo. It opened in September 2006 and belongs to the Ayuntamiento de Badolatosa, next to the Malpasillo reservoir.
The route is spread over five theme rooms that combine dim light, darkness, the sound of water and poetic phrases to create an atmosphere of sensations along the course of the river. Visitors learn about the Genil as a source of inspiration for writers, step into a giant model and watch an audiovisual projection with landscapes and narration.
Residents of Badolatosa and nearby villages recount in their own words anecdotes showing that the river was the centre of daily life: the work of muleteers, the market gardens, fishing, the high waters and the floods. Other rooms explain the old irrigation systems, the river as a social space and the control of its channel, and close with a mosaic of landscapes. The Genil's role in the era of banditry is also recalled, as it marked the boundary between Seville and Córdoba and was the setting of the legend of José María el Tempranillo.
