About the museum
The Museo Etnográfico La Calceta is in Santa Olaja de la Vega, a small village in the Vega de Saldaña, in the north of the province of Palencia. It occupies a former granary of a traditional house and is part of the cultural and tourist offer of the local area. Its collection focuses on ethnology and anthropology and includes tools from trades typical of rural life.
The route recreates the atmosphere of a village house and of several trades that have now disappeared. It includes a schoolroom from the fifties and sixties, a teaching room and a music corner. The museum aims to help children and young people learn how life was lived in the countryside, and to help older visitors remember their own past.
Visits are always guided. They come with educational activities and craft workshops, such as traditional cooking, mosaics, adobe-making or natural soap-making, as well as audiovisual presentations. The museum has also hosted an international festival of oral storytelling dedicated to tales.
