About the museum
The Museu Etnològic de Dénia opened in 1991. With this project the Town Hall wanted to make raisin production, a traditional economic activity of the town, a key reference point in its history.
The museum occupies an elegant 19th-century bourgeois house in the historic centre, on Calle Cavallers, next to the Town Hall square. The building was erected by wealthy families linked to the raisin trade and is itself an important piece of local heritage.
On the first floor there is a photographic exhibition on the traditional raisin-making process, from the grape harvest to export. On the second floor a 19th-century bourgeois salon has been recreated, with Manises ceramic floors and period clothing and jewellery, and tools and objects related to vine cultivation, fishing and rural life are displayed.
