About the museum
The Museu Arqueològic i Etnològic de Xaló (MAEX) offers a chronological route through the cultures that have inhabited the Xaló valley, from prehistory to the present day, with both an archaeological and an ethnological perspective. The collection brings together objects of material culture with graphic and audiovisual resources on the cultures and landscape of the valley.
The first room is devoted to the settlement of the valley and highlights the Roman villa of Les Hortes. The second room covers the physical environment, human communities and traditional activities, with special attention to dry-stone heritage and the raisin industry (pansa). The third room is a multipurpose space for temporary exhibitions, talks and workshops.
The museum also organises guided cultural routes around the Xaló area, which require advance registration.
