About the museum
The Museo Galego do Xoguete (Galician Toy Museum) was created in 1995 by Allariz Town Council from the donation of Alberto Oro Claro, a local resident who spent years searching for, buying and keeping more than 600 pieces. Since then other people have continued to donate toys, and the collection now numbers around 1,500 pieces representative of the 20th-century toy.
The museum occupies the ground floor of the pazo of the former Xulgados (courts), a building from the late 17th century. From 2013 it underwent a thorough refurbishment, so that adults can remember their past and children can discover what their parents and grandparents played with. The collection covers 1910 to 1978.
Among the donations are some 300 chairs from different origins, dolls' houses and an English-style table football (futbolín) for women, dating from 1917. As well as toys, board games and film projectors are displayed, and there are simple skill games that visitors can try.
