About the museum
The river Arnoia runs through Allariz from east to west and shaped the town's economy for centuries, with mills, looms, tanneries and a textile and bakery trade that supplied a wide comarca. The idea of creating the ethnographic park to recover this heritage arose in 1995.
The Muíño do Burato, in the Praza do Matadoiro, is a water-powered grain mill that operated until the 1960s and was rehabilitated in 1992. There a miller shows how grain was traditionally ground. Next to the mill, the O Fiadeiro museum explains how linen and wool garments were made.
The third element is the tannery museum, housed in the former Fábrica de Curtidos Familia Nogueiras, a large 18th-century building on the riverbank. The tanning pits and the tools of the trade are preserved, and panels explain the process. On the upper floor a leather craftsman works, and there is a classroom for craft courses.
