About the museum
The Museo Histórico Municipal de Teba began as an archaeology room set up by a group of young enthusiasts in the early 1970s, when they started systematically collecting the finds made in the municipal area. The collection was started in 1974 and grew through excavations and pieces acquired from private individuals. The museum was formalised on 15 September 2000 and is today run voluntarily by the association Hisn Atiba.
It is located on the ground floor of the town council building, on Plaza de la Constitución, and is organised into five rooms, one for each period: Prehistory, Protohistory, Ancient History, Medieval History, and Modern and Contemporary History.
Its holdings include Neolithic material from the Cueva de las Palomas, Final Bronze Age and Iberian remains from Los Castillejos, and Roman material from the Cortijo del Tajo. Among the best-known pieces are the Carnero Ibérico (Iberian ram), the Pedestal de los Erotes and the bust of the Emperor Tiberius.
