About the museum
La Casa de la Cilla is a building erected during the lordship of the House of Osuna, with no precise date known, which was originally used to store the grain, fruit and produce of the harvests of the municipal area belonging to the dukedom. Over time it underwent alterations and changes of use: in the mid-20th century the successors of the House of Osuna transferred its use to the town council, which made it the municipal jail, and later, in private hands, it was turned into a winepress and wine cellar.
Following its restoration, the building now operates as the Centro Cultural La Cilla, located on Plaza de la Iglesia, next to the church and the castle of Olvera. It houses the centre “Olvera, La Frontera y Los Castillos”, devoted to the history of Olvera as a border town between the Nasrid kingdom and the Christian territories, the Municipal Tourist Office, an archaeological exhibition and a room for travelling exhibitions.
Admission to the centre is a joint ticket with the castle, which allows the visit to be completed with the most outstanding monument in the town.
