About the museum

The Museo Histórico Municipal occupies part of the Valencia City Hall building, in the area of the former Casa de Enseñanza, founded in the 18th century, and the former church of Santa Rosa de Lima. Access is through the main façade of the Casa Consistorial.

The collection brings together documents and objects that explain the city's development. Notable among them are the urban maps, such as the famous 1704 plan by Father Tosca, and a series of prints showing views of the city made between the late 18th and the mid-19th century. Illuminated manuscripts, incunabula, guild documents, bindings and tapestries are also preserved.

The Sala dels Furs is decorated with murals by Ramón Stolz and houses a neo-Gothic display case with the first incunabulum of the Llibre dels Furs. The Sala Foral, in the former church of Santa Rosa, is decorated with paintings by José Vergara and holds symbols and relics of Valencian history, most of them from the former Casa de la Ciudad, such as the Real Senyera, the pendón de la Conquista, the sword of King Jaume I and the keys of the city.
