About the museum
The Museo Municipal de Pizarra was born from the collection of the American painter Gino Hollander, which he donated to the Pizarra town council in 1988. In 1991 the municipality acquired the Cortijo Casablanca, also known as the Cortijo del Arte (Art Farmhouse), a 19th-century mansion that was restored to house the museum.
The farmhouse is less than a kilometre from the town centre and forms a small tourist complex: besides the museum, it has an assembly hall, a restaurant and a rural hotel, surrounded by gardens and wide car parking areas.
The collection brings together around 6,000 pieces spread over 800 m² of exhibition space and two permanent rooms. The Sala Gino Hollander displays archaeological pieces from the Palaeolithic to the Early Modern period, alongside traditional farm implements such as threshing sledges (trillos) and ploughs (arados). The Sala Agustín Clavijo recreates traditional rooms, including a study, a sacristy, a kitchen and a bedroom, accompanied by works by Gino Hollander.
