About the museum
The Museo Municipal de Requena is housed in the former Convent of the Carmen and brings together the ethnology, archaeology and natural sciences sections of the Requena-Utiel comarca. It is part of a group of municipal venues that includes the Palacio del Cid, devoted to oenology (wine-making), and the Church of San Nicolás, intended for the archaeology of wine collection.
The ethnology rooms display the traditional costume of the Campo de Requena-Utiel between 1789 and 1914, domestic life in the 18th and 19th centuries, the vineyard and the winery between 1850 and 1950, and the tradition of sausage-making in Requena. The archaeology section presents the Iberian culture of the comarca, everyday life and the Roman funerary world, and the treasure of the Ferrer de Plegamans family. The natural sciences room explains the ecosystems and geology of the comarca.
