About the museum
The former Almazara del Conde is a reminder of the importance of seigniorial heritage in the municipality of Sot de Chera, and the oldest surviving olive-oil industry in the town. The olive tree has always been part of the culture of its inhabitants, who were mainly engaged in farming and mountain work.
The varieties traditionally grown were sollana and villalonga, and over the years picual, blanquilla and serraneta, among others, were introduced. The olive grove is rain-fed, so the production and quality of the oil depend on the amount and regularity of rainfall.
Today the building functions as a small museum with a crushing mill that is still used on rare occasions during the San Antón bonfires, as well as presses, machinery and tools used until the middle of the 20th century, which illustrate the stages of oil production.
