About the museum
The Colección Museográfica Luis García de Fuentes is on Calle García Berlanga in Caudete de las Fuentes, in the Utiel-Requena comarca. It holds finds from the walled Iberian settlement of Los Villares, identified with the ancient city of Kelin, which reached its greatest splendour between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC and became the capital of a wide Iberian territory.
Among the exhibits are vessels decorated in the Iberian style, metal tools, a falcata (Iberian sword) decorated with silver, objects linked to wine culture in the Iron Age and a set of coins. The site, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (protected cultural heritage site), covers around ten hectares and has only been partly excavated and consolidated. The Museu de Prehistòria de València has directed the excavations for more than two decades, and the site is part of the Ruta de los Íberos (Iberian Route).
The archaeological area is fenced off, so access is by free guided tours with an archaeologist, which include the settlement and the museum collection and require advance booking. Open Days (Jornadas de Puertas Abiertas) are also held every year on the third weekend of October.
