About the museum
The Museo Municipal Luque Tierra de Fronteras opened on 26 March 2004. Its name refers to Luque's position on the natural boundary between the Subbética and the Campiña, through whose territory routes used since prehistory pass.
The permanent exhibition is organised into thematic rooms. Room I, dedicated to the ancient frontier, covers the Iberian, Carthaginian and Roman peoples and uses the fortified enclosure of Castillarejos as an example. Room II explains the medieval frontier: the revolts of the muladíes, the clash between the Almohads and Ibn Mardanish, and the later frontier with the Nasrid kingdom of Granada, with the Castillo de Luque as the common thread. Room III focuses on the Civil War and on the Alamillo bunkers, which are being restored. There is also a room for local artists and another for temporary exhibitions, and a room on the prehistory of Luque is planned. The museum also sells tickets for the nearby Cueva de la Encantada.
