About the museum
The Museo Numismático de Lobios came about in summer 1993, when the collector and numismatist Jaime Paz, a resident of the municipality, proposed creating a permanent coin museum. It all began with a themed exhibition of Galician coins in the same space the museum occupies today, inside the town hall building. The municipal council welcomed the idea enthusiastically, and the president of the Xunta, Manuel Fraga, officially opened it in summer 1996.
The collection is arranged chronologically and includes coins, medals and banknotes. Among the pieces are coins from Ancient Greece of the 3rd century BC, a triens from the time of the Roman Republic (211 BC), Iberian bronze coins and silver denarii, as well as modern pieces from various countries. According to the available information, the museum is digitising its collection to offer a database with photographs and data for each piece.
