About the museum
The Museo-Taller de Cerámica de Casabermeja grew out of an initial workshop with a display of pottery and ceramics that opened on 15 August 1989. The current museum-workshop was inaugurated on 27 October 2007 in a former house on the calle Real. It was promoted by the ceramicist Julio Hernández Varela and the collector Sergio Ferrero, with the support of the town council, and its rehabilitation received grants from the Diputación de Málaga and the Plan de Fomento de Empleo Agrario.
The collection brings together some 200 Spanish and foreign pieces, including a Bolivian piece from the 9th century. In addition to exhibiting, the centre works as a craft space: it organises courses, workshops and temporary exhibitions and serves to document and study the town's pottery tradition.
