About the museum
The Batán Museo occupies a building that was already used for fulling cloth and blankets in 1920, a central activity in the textile tradition of Val de San Lorenzo, a village known for its blankets. The batán had two hammers driven by hydraulic power, with water channels on the outside that operated the mallets; later the hammers were powered by electricity.
The museum keeps that machinery and starts it up during the visit, which is always guided. The rooms show the stages of wool processing, such as carding, weaving on the loom and napping (perchado), as well as tools of the trade.
The town council completes the offer with the La Comunal Textile Interpretation Centre and a guided route through the village, about three kilometres long, that starts at the Batán Museo and ends at La Comunal.
