About the museum

The Museu Alcoià de la Festa belongs to the Associació de Sant Jordi, the centenary association that safeguards the continuity of the Moros y Cristianos festival of Alcoy, linked to the events of 1276. The association already had museum facilities focused on displaying the costumes of festival officials, posters, photographs and other objects. In 2003 its board decided to renew and modernise the exhibition, with the aim of presenting the Trilogía Alcoyana, the three days on which the festival reaches its climax.

The renewed museum also aims to show the human side of the festival: not only those who take part in the historical re-enactment, but all the people who make it possible to take it out onto the streets. To this end it makes extensive use of audiovisual technology, as a complement to traditional objects (costumes, photographs and other pieces) and not as a substitute for them.

The route is spread over several floors. In the entrance hall are the reception, the room for temporary exhibitions, the lifts and the toilets. The first floor is devoted to Saint George, patron saint of Alcoy, and to the association itself. The second floor explains the festive spirit through music, the audience and the filaes (festival groups), and includes display cases with the trades involved in preparing the festival. The third floor houses two audiovisual rooms designed to stir the senses and emotions.
